Derrick, a Southwest Atlanta native, began his career at Goldman Sachs trading municipal bonds and managing a $100m collateralized lending portfolio. Prior to founding Civitas, Mr. Barker attended Harvard University where he was an All-American football player, Ivy League Champion and co-founded the largest pre-professional student organization on campus, Veritas Financial Group. Mr. Barker is a graduate of Westlake High School and currently resides in Atlanta, GA with his wife and their two daughters.
As a lawyer and general partner, Eric combines his legal acumen with his real estate expertise to bring creative and efficient legal strategies and solutions to Civitas and their development work. Mr. Tanenbaum is well versed in a range of legal matters, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, joint ventures, start-ups, franchising and general corporate representation. Mr. Tanenbaum is an alumnus of Emory University School of Law and the University of Michigan.
Charles, a Gary, Indiana Native, started his career at Bain and Company as a Senior Associate Consultant advising one of the largest public REITs and a privately held hotel chain. After Bain, Mr. Cole went on to work as an Investment Officer for AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust in Washington D.C. He holds a BA in Economics from Harvard University and is currently an MBA candidate at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Mr. Schwarzkopf joined Civitas in 2018 as a General Partner, with a focus on sourcing acquisitions, executing developments, and expanding the business through strategic partnerships. Mr. Schwarzkopf has over 10 years experience as a real estate entrepreneur. Through his company, NFS Development, he renovates single family houses and provides development consulting services in Atlanta and New York. Prior to founding NFS Development, he co-founded the industrial property division at Stream Realty Partners. Mr. Schwarzkopf was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia. He is an alumnus of Harvard University and the former president of the Harvard University Club of Georgia.
Ms. Mosely joined Civitas Communities in 2015 and leads acquisitions and development for the single family residential and short-term rental divisions of the business. She previously ran the women’s fashion tops and layering brands at Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch. She is an alumna of Harvard University and hails from Shaker Heights, Ohio.
Mr. Bryant has over 5 years of experience as a commercial real estate investor. His partnerships with Civitas on several opportunistic and value-add deals have realized triple-digit IRRs. When Mr. Bryant is not evaluating deal opportunities he is furthering the agenda of the Bryant Family Foundation, a non-profit he founded to provide academic scholarships and athletic camps to students. Additionally, he is a former NFL defensive lineman who was previously signed to the Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns. Mr. Bryant is an alumnus of Harvard University and hails from Elizabethtown, North Carolina.
Mr. Smith is a Development Analyst at Civitas Communities where he works with internal and external partners to identify and evaluate development opportunities and push them from conception to completion. Before joining Civitas, he interned at Self-Help, where he supported the Self-Help Ventures fund in their leasing and marketing projects at their retail and office spaces in Durham and Greensboro, NC. Mr. Smith hails from Newark, NJ and is an alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
